We all want to feel real appreciation on everything we do. We desire more time to spend with family or see our babies crawl and laugh more often. we are living in  a state where we have woken up things that now is the time to become a  professional independent, being said, our own boss. We have even dreamed about that bunch of ideas we wish to put in place one day that will give us that confidence to become an entrepreneur. But then something comes up, and we begin to doubt our skills and our ability to pull off this amazing dream. Previous failed attempts emerge as well as a sense of guilt about leaving your current job and you question whether it’s worth trying. Isn’t there freedom in keeping my actual job? Would  my entrepreneurship call be brought to life?  – Is there true freedom on becoming my own boss?

I will share part of my young experience in this path. I grow up in a family where small businesses and creative ideas became a reality – at least lots of them. We had and share lot of interesting topics that flowed in our typical conversations frequently. Those days, I can tell, I  never experienced so many doubts or never was I scared of failure practically because starting up, trying things and making errors are unavoidable steps on this entrepreneurial learning process. I had the opportunity that at an early age I got into different endeavors; I created and helped create different ‘business ideas’ – they were small ideas though; I was little, remember? – that for me and my family they were considered jobs and businesses mainly because I was putting my whole attention into something productive if not financially, at least, educationally.  Wonderful were those days when opportunities met necessities; yes, money started to come in. And we knew what it meant: Satisfaction. Not because I was able to pay my bills at whole but because I experienced fullness in what I was doing once again.

And here comes my response to our main question “is there true freedom in being your own boss?” Yes and No.

My yesses.

  • If you are organized and pretty decisive, it allows you to work the hours you want to work and even decide where to work.
  • Your satisfaction level by just trying can outweigh any job performance review.
  • You’re more in sync with your plans and goals for your business, and lifestyle.
  • You are expose to becoming an expert as much as you pour intention into new ideas, practices, techniques, and relationships involved during business time. A marketing expert, a consultant, or IT freelance, are just jobs you’ll have to get accustomed to.
  • You’re who you are and who you want your business to project. It ‘s all about what you do, say, and share.

My noes:

  • Too much research. Yeap 🙁  Everything we want to start is all we have to keep learning. School is not finished, and to keep business afloat classes should match our weaknesses.
  • We have to wear many hats – and learn how to wear those hats. There are tasks we love more doing than others, but someone has to do them. At first and for long that will be you.
  • Vacations and sick days aren’t offered. You already planned what you wanted to do, so better start planning what, when and how are you gonna spend what you hardly earned. Scheduling savings, insurance payments and the likes may be boring but takes away a  weight in the future.
  • And let’s be honest, we cannot have total control over what we’ll steadily earn, save and even spend.  Marketing, networking, word of mouth, promotions, competition, and rainy days as well, they all affect that lump sum you bring home.

Hey! solopreneurs and mompreneurs, let me know how you doing? and what are some of your secrets on finding freedoms as your own boss. 🙂
